The Problem

• Learning Disabilities means a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding, listening or in using language, spoken or written, or in doing calculations
• As per the UNESCO estimate, the incidence of Learning Disability in India is a huge problem that is not acknowledged, and impacting at least between 10% to 12% of the school going population
• Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is another cognitive disorder that afflicts around 10 million Indian children annually
• Autism affects communication and behavior for 1 in 500 (0.2%) ~more than 2 million people in India
• Learning Disabilities & Special Need conditions can be cured with proper intervention and support, needing time and significant cost of treatment and counselling which is largely unaffordable to the masses
• However, counselling/ treatment of these conditions is hugely undeserved area with few service providers
• It is most likely that such children suffer through their schooling. They are usually ignored, at best, and ill-treated at worst; Teachers find it difficult to recognize the symptoms or help such students
